ESEE Knives Camp Lore Series

8/25/2017

To anyone that is into camping, hiking, hunting, or just general EDC, it’s no secret that ESEE makes some of the best survival and bushcraft knives on the market.  The small fixed blade Izula has become a staple in thousands of EDC kits across the globe, whereas the ESEE 3, 4, 5, and 6 are the go-to for many people heading off into the woods.
ESEE has recently expanded their line of blades in a series that they are calling Camp Lore.  The Camp Lore knives are simple designs, but they are rugged.  The four knives in the Camp Lore series were designed by individuals who come from unique survival backgrounds, and are well respected in their fields.  All of the Camp Lore knives are made from 1095 carbon steel, which is the same steel that ESEE uses in their traditional lineup.  Unlike the traditional ESEE lineup, the Camp Lore knives come uncoated, which allows the user to develop a natural patina on the blade.

ESEE Camp-Lore RB3

The ESEE Camp Lore RB3 was designed by Reuben Bolieu – a writer, photographer, and martial arts trainer, that has spent the last 30 years traveling the globe in search of new adventures.  Reuben is a well-respected expert in primitive survival techniques and edged weapons, and has gained a reputation for his advocacy of ultralight gear while out on adventure.

CAMP-LORE RB3 SPECS:
  • Overall Length: 8.13″
  • Maximum Blade Thickness: .125″
  • Weight (Knife Only): 6 oz
  • 1095 Uncoated Blade Steel
  • Micarta Handle
  • Scandi Grind
  • Leather Pouch Sheath

ESEE Camp-Lore JG3

The ESEE Camp Lore JG3 was designed by James Gibson, an expert in flint knapping and lead instructor at Randall’s Adventure Training.
CAMP-LORE JG3 SPECS:
  • Overall Length: 7.63″
  • Maximum Blade Thickness: .125″
  • Weight (Knife Only): 4.5 oz
  • 1095 Uncoated Blade Steel
  • Micarta Handle
  • Flat Grind
  • Leather Pouch Sheath

ESEE Camp-Lore CR2.5

The ESEE Camp Lore was designed by Cody Rowen of Rowen Manufacturing – the company that manufactures ESEE knives.  The CR2.5 is a tiny package, but perfect for pairing and general food prep, as well as making precision cuts, if that’s what the situation dictates.
CAMP-LORE CR2.5 SPECS:
  • Overall Length: 6.25″
  • Maximum Blade Thickness: .125″
  • Weight (Knife Only): 2.5 oz
  • 1095 Uncoated Steel
  • Micarta Handle
  • Leather Pouch Sheath

Upgrade the Sheath

The only downside to the new ESEE Camp Lore line is the sheath that they come with.  The sheath itself is well constructed and made of fine leather – so the quality is just like everything else that ESEE produces – top notch.  There are three big disadvantages of the leather sheath:
  1. The leather sheath is much bulkier and heavier.
  2. The leather sheath can only be worn on the belt vertically.  This could be a problem if you plan on using the knife for every day carry, and you live in a state where concealment is required.
  3. When leather gets wet, it takes a long time to dry, and with the Camp Lore knives being made from uncoated 1095 steel, that could lead to premature wear on the blade.  If not properly cared for, the steel can easily begin to corrode.  Not only can the leather promote rusting, but sand and other kinds of grit can accumulate inside the sheath, acting as a kind of sandpaper every time you sheath your blade.

We are happy to announce that we are now producing kydex sheaths for the ESEE Camp-Lore series.  We offer a variety of colors and patterns, as well as custom attachment points for Exotac firesteels and ESEE AH1 arrowheads.  We also offer belt attachment solutions, such overhooks for IWB concealed carry, mil-spec Pull-the-Dot snaps for scout carry, MOLLE attachments, and Tek Loks.
